The Government of Uganda white paper on Education (1992) had, as one of its recommendations, the establishment of a public university in Eastern Uganda, to increase equitable access to university education in that region. In pursuance of that recommendation, a multi-campus university model, with the main campus at the former National College of Agricultural Mechanization, Busitema was established in 2007, Other campuses are located in different parts of Eastern Uganda at Arapai, Kaliro, Mbale (2 campuses), Nagongera, Pallisa and Namasagali.

With the entry of the Adventist church in Uganda in 1927 came also the first Adventist educational institution in Nchwanga in West Central Uganda. The primary function of the institution was to train pastors and church workers. In 1948 the institution moved to a newly purchased property of 640 acres in Bugema, 34 Kilometers from Kampala. Two years later a secondary education at ???O??? level was started. By 1970 a junior college began its operations training pastors for the field.

From 1952-1981, Bishop Stuart College trained grade II and III teachers. In 1982 the College was transferred to Kibingo in Rwampara (currently Mbarara city) giving way to National Teachers College, Kakoba to train Diploma Teachers for Primary and Secondary Schools.

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is the oldest and premier public university in Tanzania. It is situated 13 kilometers on the western side of the city of Dar es Salaam, occupying 1,625 acres on the observation hill, famously known as Mlimani in Kiswahili. It was established on 25th October 1961 as the University College Dar es Salaam (UCD), an affiliate college of the University of London.

Sokoine University of Agriculture was first established on the 1st July, 1984 by Parliamentary Act No. 14 of 1984 through the amendment of Parliamentary Act No 6 of the same year. Following repealing of the Act, the university is now operating through the Sokoine University of Agriculture Charter, 2007 through the broad framework of the Universities Act, 2005.

The history of Sokoine University of Agriculture dates back to 1965 when it started as an Agricultural College offering diploma training in the discipline of agriculture.

The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in Arusha is one in a network of Pan-African Institutions of Science and Technology located across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). These institutions, which are the proud brainchild of the late Nelson Mandela, envision training and developing the next generation of African scientists and engineers with a view to impacting profoundly on the continent's development through the application of Science, Engineering and Technology and Innovation (SETI).

West Kordofan University was established in 1997 to be a beacon of thought and scientific renaissance and a bridge of communication between the various states of Sudan with sources of knowledge and modern science, and a crucible in which the necessary cadres in all disciplines are prepared and trained for the participation of the local community

Sinnar University was established in 1993 , and the University Law was issued according to which it was established in 1995 , when its name was changed from Blue Nile University to Sinnar University. The Abu Naama College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, which was established in 1977 , was the first nucleus of the university

The University of Kordofan (Arabic: ?????????? ???????????? ) (informally Kordofan University) is one of the largest universities in Sudan located in El-Obeid 560 km to the southwest of Khartoum. It was founded in 1990 and is recognized as one of the top universities in Sudan. It features several institutes, academic units and research centres, including the Institute of Gum Arabic Research and Desertification Studies, the Centre for Intermediate Technology in Agriculture and a Deanship for Scientific Research and Postgraduate Studies.

In 1898 after Britain gained dominance in Sudan as part of a condominium arrangement, Lord Kitchener proposed founding a college in the memory of Gordon of Khartoum, who was killed in the Siege of Khartoum. The request for donations of ??100,000 to build the college was achieved in six weeks and the Gordon Memorial College was founded in 1902 with initially three schools - an industrial school and two higher primary schools and a small teachers training centre.
