Sharing Innovations and experiences from Korea for Higher Education Transformation in Africa (SIKET).

Project objectives

The overall aim of the project was to improve the quality of higher education in Africa and its contribution to development by sharing lessons and expertise from the Republic of Korea. The project has three specific objectives:

  • To share higher education best practices from Korea with African universities;
  • To strengthen entrepreneurship education and small enterprise incubation at African universities; and
  • To document and share lessons and experiences from the Project with key stakeholders
Project activities
  1. Literature study on Korean model and contribution of universities to national economic development with
  2. recommendations for African Higher Education. 
  3. Learning visit of African Vice Chancellors to South Korea. 
  4. Facilitate High Level Policy dialogue on higher education, Science and Technology in Africa. 
  5. Support creation of incubation hub at two RUFORUM??? member???s universities. 
  6. Training university staff on entrepreneurship and incubation (2 months). 
  7. Strengthening RUFORUM Online platform (Agridata) to support matching of Korean and African Universities.
  8. Sharing of lessons using media, conferences and publications.  
Project achievements

The following was achieved during the reporting period:

Component 1: Share African higher education best practices from Korea with African universities:

  • Literature study undertaken: A literature study on Korean higher education model and its contribution to national economic development with lessons for Africa was undertaken. 

  • Learning visit of Vice Chancellors to Korea: This activity could not be achieved due to the restrictions on travel imposed by several Governments and institutions due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Funds for this activity were re-allocated to support the establishment of the third incubation hub in Mali

  • High Level Policy Dialogue held:  The project hosted a High-Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD) on theme Global Academia-Policy Partnership for Transformative Institutional Leadership, Skills Development and Youth Employability, on 6th December 2021 in Cotonou, Benin,
